Tibet is a rugged, vast windswept land that is perhaps synonymous as the legendary land that reflects a rich and at times turbulent cultural history. Within central Tibet there are reconstructed medieval monasteries and temples with small communities of monks which have survived the Cultural Revolution. From Kathmandu we fly to the fabled city of Lhasa and visit the Jokhang temple, the Potala palace, Norbulingka (the former summer palace of the Dalai Lama). From Lhasa we continue our journey south to Gyantse then Shigatse, the seat of the Panchen Lama in Tashilumpo before driving across to Rongbuk monastery to view the north face of Everest. We complete this legendary journey at Zhangmu following the Lhasa to Kathmandu highway through the Sun Koshi gorge to Nepal.
