Kali Gandaki – The Holy River
3 days ex Pokhara

The kali Gandaki, named after the Hindu goddess of destruction Kali, rises in Mustang, on the northern side of Himalaya. As it tumbles south between the majestic Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges, it creates one of the world’s deepest river gorges. The river combined outrageous whitewater, with some of the prettiest scenery in Nepal, seldom - visited in valleys and truly quiet and introspective evenings. It is also a great river for kayaking, as the rapids are quite technical and continuous, keeping paddlers busy all day.

The river journey begins from Baglung, located by road about three hours west of Pokhara. After meeting the modi Khola, the river swings south through as area where tourists are virtually unknown. It is another three days before a road crosses the river. The variety of experiences on such a short trip would be hard to match anywhere and the rapids are only a small part of the experience. On a clear day, the majestic Annapurna range forms the backdrop for the river valley. Abundant wildlife, sandy beaches, picturesque villages and outrageously beautiful waterfalls, all make the Kali Gandaki a fantastic river journey.

On the river

There are no rules to running rivers. To enjoy, feel and learn, we ask that you be flexible and open to the ever changing situations. We rise with the sun, eat a hearty breakfast, load the rafts and begin our day. On the rive we paddle hard through countless rapids and cruise the water in between. Lunch is alongside the river on a sandy beach around noon. A typical day consists of about 4-6 hours spent on the river, time dependent upon our choice of spectacular riverside campsites.

Physical fitness

You do not have to be an athlete to join our trips. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended though, as it will add to the enjoyment of your adventure. However, we do suggest good swimming ability, although non swimmer can also be accommodated. Our high buoyancy life jackets and helmets mean there is little chance of getting in trouble, should you fall in.

Safety is the number one priority on our river trips and our outstanding records shows just that. To ensure a safe trip, we employ some of the world's most experienced rafting guides. All our guides are professionally certified and skilled in running whitewater expeditions. All major rapids are scouted prior to any run and accompanied by safety kayakers.
