Bhutan, the Dragon kingdom is truly a Shangri-La, a mythical country hidden deep in the mountains. Religion, tradition and ancestral custom, robed monks, high lamas and the religious men are everywhere, determining attitudes, moulding thoughts. From Kathmandu, we fly to Paro at an altitude of 2100 mts. Our excursion to Takstang monastery precariously hanging of a cliff is a steep hike, almost 2 hours. Tiger’s nest is where Guru Rimpoche meditated for 3 months in the 7th century. On our way to the Druk capital in Thimpu, we visit the Simtokha Dzong, the first Dzong built in Bhutan by Shabdrung Rimpoche in 1627. Sightseeing tour of Thimpu includes, Memorial chorten at the heart of the town, the national library, painting school emporium and the post office. We drive to Punakha, the old winter capital of Bhutan, on the way we cross a pass, Dochula from where one can see the highest mountain in Bhutan, Mt. Gangkhar Punsum 7542 mts. We fly back to Kathmandu to conclude our journey, extension to Chitwan National park or whitewater rafting trip can be added to your holiday.
